Jack's Daily Excerpt:
I've been collecting information about our trip today, and I've discovered certain discrepancies in the public information about the Malaspina that are not undistressing. Two separate sources taken from the same board outside the Adult Day Room indicate that the passenger capacity of our ferry is 701 and 750, respectively. Both sources agree that there are 86 cabins and that the ship's length is 408', but they differ about how much the length was extended in 1972: one says 56', the other 50'. Less consequential but also disturbing is a difference in year of construction: one says the Malaspina was built in 1963, the other that it was launched 4 June 1962. I'm not sure what all this bodes, but when you're in moving through extremely deep, cold water, you'd like the small comfort that things are generally under control, which comfort it's hard to sustain when informational confidence is low.
